20020727: Shanahan's on the Green

I was in Dublin about a week in summer 2002. We were going out to get some food. I said, that anything goes, but it would be nice to get something better than a burger. Well, my friends said that Shanahan's is a better place.

So a group of 5 persons went to this place to get something to eat. And boy it was something better than a burger or pizza!

I took Tuna Carpaccio - and ofcourse a pint of Guinness (most expensive one during this trip) - for the starters. The raw tuna was excellent.

I was a bit hungry, so I needed about 700 g (24 oz) meat. So, I ordered two Fillet Mignons (following is approximation of the ordering sequence):

Waiter: "Are you sure, sir? One fillet is big, 340 g".

Me: "Is the fillet as smooth as it is said in the menú (practically melts in your mouth)?"

Waiter: "Yes it is, sir."

Me: "Well, then even two may be not enough. So, I take the two Mignons."

The two fillets came in oval plate (others had round plates). And the meat was better than I could even dream. Well, the price was so high, that my expectations were quite high.

We asked, could we give part of the gratuity in coins. That was allowed, so we filled the gratuity wallet with notes and all coins (over 50 EUR).
